COMMANDING OFFICER KILLED AS ISWAP FIGHTERS ATTACK MILITARY BASE IN BORNO

A Nigerian Army officer in charge was killed after suspected ISWAP rebels attacked a military post in Kukawa, Borno state.
Zagazola Makama, a counter–insurgency news source covering the Lake Chad area, reported that the attack led to injuries on both sides and resulted in a long–lasting battle between the soldiers and the attackers.
Sources informed Makama that bloodstains were found outside the camp, suggesting there may have been insurgent casualties during the fight.
Items recovered from the insurgents’ positions within the camp include “bandoliers of PKT rounds, one AK-47 rifle, one BHT machine gun, two mortar bombs, and four hand grenades”.
The report also noted that troops intercepted an injured Boko Haram fighter in the community while he was being brought to the camp. The suspect tried to flee, triggering additional gunfire.
Sources said the situation remains under control, with troops continuing to secure the area and conduct follow-up operations to track remaining insurgents.
The most recent attack happened just a week after suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters tried to attack military bases in Ngoshe, which is in the Gwoza area of Borno state. The Nigerian Air Force reported that more than 50 suspected terrorists were killed during air strikes in the state.
