The Federal High Court sitting in Gusau, Zamfara State, has nullified the All Progressives Congress primary election conducted for the Zamfara North Senatorial District.

The court, presided over by Justice Hassan Dikko, on Monday ordered the APC to conduct a fresh primary election for the senatorial district within 14 days of the judgment.

The judge reached the decision after considering the written addresses and arguments presented and adopted by the plaintiffs and defendants in the case.

Reacting to the judgment, an APC senatorial aspirant, Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, welcomed the decision, describing it as a development that had restored public confidence in the judiciary.

Shinkafi said, “I appreciate the court’s decision; it has restored people’s confidence in the judiciary.”

He described the ruling as a significant step towards strengthening democracy, adding that it demonstrated that Nigerians still had confidence in the judiciary.

Shinkafi had earlier approached the court to challenge the legality of the APC primary election held for the Zamfara North Senatorial District during the party’s most recent primary exercise in the state.

Following the court’s decision, the APC is now required to organise a fresh primary election in the district within the stipulated 14-day period.
