CROSS RIVER LAUNCHES OIL AND GAS SKILLS TRAINING FOR 2,000 YOUTHS

The Cross River State Government has launched an oil and gas skills training programme aimed at equipping 2,000 youths across the state with professional and technical skills.
The programme, tagged “Skill Up in the Season of Sweetness,” offers beneficiaries CPD-accredited certificate and diploma training designed to prepare them for opportunities in the oil and gas industry.
The initiative was launched on Thursday by Governor Bassey Otu, who was represented at the event by the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, Ayambem said the programme would provide participants with practical skills and professional qualifications relevant to the evolving energy sector.
He said opportunities in the oil and gas industry extend beyond exploration and production to areas such as engineering, logistics, safety, environmental management, procurement, maintenance and data services.
According to him, the government’s responsibility is to ensure young people acquire the technical knowledge and professional qualifications needed to compete for opportunities in the global energy sector.
Otu said the training of 2,000 youths through CPD-accredited certificate and diploma programmes represented an investment in the beneficiaries, their families and communities, as well as the state’s productive capacity.
He urged the participants to take the programme seriously and continue developing their skills, noting that the qualifications could support professional growth, entrepreneurship and wider economic participation.
The governor said his administration would continue to implement initiatives focused on expanding access to skills development, enterprise opportunities and employment for young people.
He also encouraged the beneficiaries to apply the knowledge gained during the training and contribute to the development of the state.
Otu commended the organisers and technical partners for supporting the initiative and urged the beneficiaries to “skill up, stand out and contribute meaningfully” to the state’s development.
