DELTA POLICE ARREST ONE, LAUNCH MANHUNT FOR TWO OVER DEPUTY DIRECTOR’S DEATH

The Delta State Police Command has arrested one suspect and launched a manhunt for two others in connection with the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the state Ministry of Secondary Education.

Adeda reportedly died following an incident at the office of the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Kingsley Ashibogwu, in Asaba.

The arrested suspect was identified as Lucky Adoh, while Enos Attah and Oputa Okestine were said to be at large.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the command had taken note of reports surrounding Adeda’s death.

According to the statement, the police received allegations that Adeda was physically assaulted by aides attached to the commissioner, identified as Attah, Okestine and Adoh.

“Upon receipt of the complaints, the command immediately swung into action and arrested one of the suspects, Lucky Adoh, while a serious manhunt for the other fleeing suspects is ongoing,” the statement said.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale, directed the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to investigate the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.

The police said the investigation would examine available evidence, including video footage, eyewitness accounts, medical records and the actions of all individuals connected to the incident.

The command said the aim was to establish the facts and ensure that anyone found culpable was brought to justice in accordance with the law.

It assured Adeda’s family and members of the public that no individual found culpable would be shielded, regardless of their status or position.

The police also said updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.

The development followed a protest by workers under the Nigeria Labour Congress, who shut the Delta State Secretariat in Asaba on Friday to demand an investigation into Adeda’s death.

The workers locked the entrances to the secretariat and disrupted official activities during the protest.

The Commissioner of Police expressed condolences to Adeda’s family and assured them that the police would pursue justice in the matter.
