PEZESHKIAN: IRAN SUPPORTS REVIVAL OF MEMORANDUM WITH US

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Friday that Tehran was willing to return to a memorandum of understanding reached with the United States in June, days after declaring that Iran would not yield to pressure from Washington.
Pezeshkian welcomed China’s call for the agreement to be revived, saying Iran shared the same position and considered a return to the understanding important.
“Iran shares this approach and underscores the importance of returning to that understanding,” he said in a post on X.
The development comes amid stalled diplomatic efforts to end the conflict in the Middle East, which began after the United States and Israel launched surprise attacks on Iran in late February.

The June agreement was intended to provide a framework for negotiations toward a broader peace deal, but the arrangement subsequently broke down.
There had been expectations that diplomatic talks could resume on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly this week. However, in a speech to the UN on Wednesday, Pezeshkian said Iran would not “bend at the knee” to the United States.
A day later, he told Fox News that Iran did not want the war to continue but said Washington would have to take steps to end the conflict.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also met with US envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner on the sidelines of the General Assembly, although the meeting did not immediately produce a breakthrough.
