EL-RUFAI DETENTION: TIMI FRANK ALLEGES ‘RUSSIAN DOCTOR’ WAS BROUGHT IN WITHOUT FAMILY APPROVAL

A former Deputy Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress, Timi Frank, has raised fresh concerns over the health and safety of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services.

In a statement on Friday, Frank alleged that a Russian doctor was brought in on Thursday night to examine El-Rufai without the consent of his family, questioning the circumstances surrounding the development.

He further expressed suspicion over the motive behind the medical visit, insisting that El-Rufai appeared healthy during his last court appearance at the Federal High Court.

According to Frank, a DSS official informed him that a Russian doctor visited the former governor at about 9:45 p.m., allegedly on the grounds that he required urgent medical attention. He claimed that although El-Rufai initially resisted, he was eventually compelled to undergo a medical examination.

Frank questioned why a foreign doctor was brought in at such an unusual hour if the former governor’s condition was truly critical.

He also appealed to northern leaders, civil society groups, legal bodies, and the international community to intervene, urging El-Rufai’s immediate release so he can adequately prepare for his defence.

Recall that El-Rufai was granted bail of ₦100 million by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged national security breaches but was returned to DSS custody pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.

The former governor’s family had earlier also expressed concerns over his continued detention.
