Veteran Nollywood actress and evangelist Eucharia Anunobi has shared the emotional story of losing her son after years of battling Sickle Cell Disease.
Speaking on the media, the actress recounted her experience as a mother raising a child with the SS genotype. She explained that the ordeal began when her son became ill shortly before his first birthday, and medical tests confirmed he had sickle cell disease.
Fighting back tears, Anunobi said, “Just before my son turned one, he became sick and I took him to the hospital. After checking his genotype, the doctors told me he was SS, and that was when the greatest battle of my life began.”
Determined to care for him, she said she devoted herself to learning everything possible about managing the condition. She researched medications, explored herbal options, and studied how to properly support a child living with sickle cell disorder.

“I went everywhere searching for solutions. I read extensively about treatments, herbs, and everything involved in caring for a child with the SS genotype,” she said.
Anunobi added that she had to adopt strict precautions to safeguard her son’s health, including protecting him from dust and excessive heat. “I learnt they must avoid dusty places and extreme temperatures. My son never drank sachet water,” she recalled.
Despite the challenges, the actress described the years she spent raising him as deeply meaningful.
“I’m thankful that God allowed me to experience motherhood. Caring for my son for 16 years, six months, and 22 days remains one of the most beautiful and fulfilling periods of my life,” she said.
According to Anunobi, the experience strengthened her faith and brought her closer to God.
“I thank God for the opportunity to be a mother. Through caring for him, I learnt so much, and it deepened my relationship with God,” she added.
