A fire outbreak has destroyed 75 permanent buildings and 35 temporary structures at Kofar Ruwa Timber Market in Kano State.
The Kano State Fire Service Public Relations Officer, PFS Kabiru Isah Jafaru, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.
Jafaru said the fire started at about 7:39 a.m. on Saturday following a distress call from a timber dealer identified as Alhaji Abba.
He explained that firefighters were immediately mobilised from various stations across the metropolitan area to tackle the inferno.
According to him, the fire had already spread to several sections of the market before the arrival of the emergency response team.
The spokesperson, however, said firefighters eventually brought the situation under control and prevented the flames from spreading to other parts of the market.
He urged traders and business owners to remain vigilant and observe necessary fire safety precautions to prevent similar incidents, particularly during the harmattan season.
