FRESH RUSSIA-UKRAINE ATTACKS LEAVE 16 DEAD AMID STALLED PEACE TALKS

At least 16 people have been killed in fresh Russian and Ukrainian attacks, as both countries intensified cross-border strikes amid stalled diplomatic efforts to end the nearly four-and-a-half-year war.
The latest casualties were reported in Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine, northeastern Ukraine and Russian border communities, underscoring growing concerns over the rising civilian death toll. The United Nations has recently warned that civilian casualties have increased significantly in recent months.
Ukraine also expanded its long-range drone campaign, targeting an oil refinery in Siberia’s Tyumen region and the Russian city of Yekaterinburg in the Urals. Kyiv says such strikes are aimed at disrupting Russia’s military capabilities and increasing pressure on Moscow to negotiate.
Russian-installed authorities in the occupied Zaporizhzhia region accused Ukraine of striking tourist camps in the Azov Sea village of Kyrylivka, killing eight people, including two children, and injuring 14 others.

The Moscow-appointed governor of the occupied region, Yevgeny Balitsky, said the attack targeted a civilian area. Ukraine had not commented on the allegation as of the time of reporting.
In Ukraine, officials said a Russian drone attack on a Nova Poshta courier facility in the northeastern city of Sumy killed three drivers.
President Volodymyr Zelensky described the incident as a “double-tap” drone strike, a tactic involving repeated attacks on the same location.
Two more people were reported killed in southern Ukraine, while Russian authorities said two civilians died in border villages and another person was killed in the occupied Kherson region.
Far from the front lines, Ukrainian drones struck an oil refinery in Russia’s Tyumen region—more than 1,000 miles east of Moscow—marking one of Kyiv’s deepest attacks inside Russian territory since the war began.
The refinery strike triggered a fire after a drone fell within the facility, according to Tyumen Governor Alexander Moor.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said Ukraine launched more than 300 drones into Russian territory, including attacks on regions far from the border.
Zelensky also announced that Ukrainian forces had struck a defence-related factory in Kirov for the second consecutive day, saying the facility supplies components used in Russian weapons.
Meanwhile, Kirov Governor Alexander Sokolov declared three days of mourning following Friday’s attack, confirming a final death toll of five after one person initially believed dead was later found alive.
Further west, Russia’s largest online retailer, Wildberries, temporarily suspended operations at its logistics centre in Yekaterinburg after staff were evacuated during a Ukrainian drone attack. The company said the facility was not damaged.
Authorities in the Sverdlovsk region confirmed that drones caused a fire in a parking area but reported no casualties.
Russian President Vladimir Putin did not publicly comment on Saturday’s attacks.
Ukraine maintains that its strikes inside Russia are a legitimate response to Moscow’s sustained bombardment of Ukrainian cities, while diplomatic efforts led by the United States remain stalled, with no breakthrough in sight.
