Musiliu Akinsanya, widely recognized as MC Oluomo and currently serving as the President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, has publicly acknowledged that he is actively studying to refine his proficiency in spoken English.

On Tuesday, he unveiled this revelation while addressing Nollywood personality Adams Kehinde, widely recognized as Lege Miami, alongside other participants at a rally convened to bolster President Bola Tinubu’s re–election campaign.

The remarks have garnered significant online attention, particularly after a video capturing the exchange was widely circulated.

Addressing the audience in Yoruba, MC Oluomo conceded that neither he nor Lege Miami possessed fluency in English, further noting that he had resolved to enroll in classes to enhance his communicative abilities.

He also said his frequent international travels had not made him a fluent English speaker.

“Neither of us speaks English fluently, so I am taking classes to improve. I travel around the world. I am a citizen of America.

“When I get to immigration and they ask how many weeks I want to stay, I tell them no, this is my home. I am a US citizen; I am going home,” he said.

MC Oluomo also spoke about his children’s educational and professional achievements, saying they had careers in different fields in the United States.

“My children can speak better than me. My children in the US are nurses, a doctor and an engineer,” he said.

He added that he sometimes relied on his children to speak on his behalf when he found it difficult to express himself in English.

“If I get somewhere and cannot speak English well, I will give the microphone to one of my children,” he said.

In April 2025, MC Oluomo faced online criticism after pronouncing the word “kudos” as “kundusi” while praising members of the union in Abuja.

PUNCH Online reports that he responded to the criticism by acknowledging that he was not educated and might struggle to express himself in English.

He, however, dismissed the importance attached to his English proficiency, saying, “Grammar won’t finish Nigeria, I might not understand the English language, but I understand Yoruba.”

He also challenged his critics to compare their achievements with those of his children, whom he described as highly educated and citizens of the United States and the United Kingdom.

“I trained my children properly with money. My children are citizens of America and the United Kingdom. I worked hard to get there,” he said in the earlier video.
