INEC COMMENCES DISTRIBUTION OF SENSITIVE MATERIALS AHEAD OF OSUN GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive electoral materials to the 30 Local Government Areas of Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The exercise is being carried out at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Osogbo, the state capital.

INEC National Commissioner overseeing the Osun election, Kunle Ajayi, attributed the delay in distribution to the late arrival of newly printed ballot papers and other election materials from Abuja.

He explained that the materials had to be reproduced following the recent inclusion of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Francis Ajala, and his running mate, Faseke Oladipo, on the ballot.

The development brings the number of political parties participating in the August 15 governorship election to 15.

INEC said the inclusion of the SDP candidate followed a Federal High Court judgment delivered in Abuja on July 22, 2026, directing the commission to recognise and publish Ajala’s details as the party’s candidate.

Consequently, the commission reproduced the ballot papers and result sheets to reflect the addition.

Ajayi said the distribution had commenced to ensure that all sensitive materials reached their designated locations ahead of Saturday’s poll.

INEC had earlier assured that the reprinting and distribution process would not affect the scheduled commencement of voting.
