KANO FIRE SERVICE RESCUES MAN TRAPPED FOLLOWING WALL COLLAPSE IN KANO

A worker was rescued alive on Sunday after a fence wall collapsed during a demolition exercise at Kofar Mata Zango in the Kano Municipal Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the agency’s Emergency Response Unit received a distress call at about 8:49 a.m. from one Naziru Ahmad, reporting the incident.
Firefighters from the service headquarters were immediately deployed to the scene, where they found that a residential building measuring about 30 by 20 feet was being demolished.
The statement said the fence wall suddenly became unstable during the exercise, trapping one of the workers, identified as Sadiq Ahmad, as he attempted to escape.
“Our rescue team immediately commenced operations and successfully rescued the victim alive. He was taken to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital and handed over to his brother, Naziru Ahmad, for medical attention,” the statement read.
The Fire Service said the cause of the collapse was under investigation.
It urged residents and construction workers to strictly observe safety precautions during demolition and construction activities to prevent similar incidents.
“We urge members of the public to observe all necessary safety measures during demolition and construction works to avoid preventable accidents,” the statement added
