KANO NDC MEMBERS CONSIDER RETURN TO APC AFTER VISIT TO GOVERNOR YUSUF

Some prominent members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State may return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following a solidarity visit to Governor Abba Yusuf and his deputy, Murtala Garo.
The development followed a visit by members of the political team of Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the NDC candidate for Kano Central Senatorial District, to the state leadership on Tuesday night as part of consultations ahead of their planned return to the APC.
Gawuna, a former deputy governor of Kano State under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, contested the 2023 governorship election as the APC candidate but lost to Yusuf, who ran on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.
The delegation, led by Gawuna’s ally, Muhammad Umar, included NDC Vice Chairman in Kano State, Ali Yako; Mansur Gawuna; Uba Mijinyawa, popularly known as Uba Danzainab; and other members of Gawuna’s political team.
Speaking during the visit, Umar said the group was engaging with the state leadership because of its commitment to the development and progress of Kano.
He said the consultations were aimed at creating opportunities for the group to contribute to government initiatives and support programmes that would improve the welfare of residents.
Also speaking, Yako expressed support for Governor Yusuf’s administration, saying its efforts to transform the state were visible to residents.
He said the delegation visited to demonstrate solidarity with Yusuf and Garo and support initiatives focused on advancing the interests of the people.
The reported move comes amid renewed political realignments in Kano ahead of the 2027 general elections, as politicians and their supporters reassess their political affiliations and alliances.
The development could affect the political balance in the state, particularly as the APC works to strengthen its structure ahead of the 2027 polls.
Gawuna joined the NDC after emerging as the party’s candidate for Kano Central, making any movement of members of his political camp back to the APC potentially significant in the state’s evolving political landscape.
