LAGOS GOVT MANDATES LASRRA NUMBER FOR SCHOOL ADMISSION

The Lagos State Government has made registration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) mandatory for all learners seeking enrolment in public and private schools across the state, effective from the 2026/2027 academic session.
Under the new directive, schools are required to obtain and document each learner’s valid LASRRA registration number as part of the admission and enrolment process, beginning Monday, September 14, 2026.
The directive, approved by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, is being implemented through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) as part of efforts to establish a comprehensive and verifiable database of learners across Lagos State.
Alli-Balogun said the initiative was designed to provide the government with accurate and reliable data to support effective planning, monitoring and service delivery within the education sector.
According to him, integrating learners into the LASRRA database would strengthen school record-keeping, improve identification and verification, facilitate learner tracking and provide government agencies with credible data for evidence-based policymaking.
As part of the new arrangement, schools are expected to include learners’ LASRRA registration numbers in admission documents and school records, while sensitising parents and guardians about the requirement.
Schools have also been directed to encourage parents whose children or wards are not yet registered with LASRRA to complete the registration process before the commencement of the new academic session.
The government, however, stressed that learners’ personal information must be handled securely and confidentially in line with applicable data protection standards.
Also speaking, the Director-General of the Office of Education Quality Assurance, Dr Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, said the agency, in collaboration with LASRRA and other relevant government bodies, would develop modalities for generating and assigning unique PINs to learners.
He added that sensitisation, registration and verification support would be provided to schools, parents, guardians and learners to facilitate compliance with the directive.
Ogunmuyiwa further stated that compliance would form part of the OEQA’s monitoring and quality-assurance activities across public and private schools in the state.
He urged parents, guardians and school proprietors to ensure that their children, wards and learners are registered with LASRRA ahead of the 2026/2027 academic session, emphasising that the requirement is mandatory.
