APC Rose to Power on Propaganda, Says Kenneth Okonkwo
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of relying on propaganda to secure victory in the 2015 general election.
Okonkwo alleged that the APC successfully unseated former President Goodluck Jonathan through a sustained campaign of negative messaging and public attacks rather than policy-based politics.
Writing on his X account, the ADC stalwart recalled that former Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, spearheaded what he described as a propaganda campaign against Jonathan.
According to him, the APC portrayed Jonathan as “clueless, corrupt, insensitive and incompetent,” blaming him for the security crisis in the North-East and criticising his decision to remove the fuel subsidy.
Okonkwo argued that the relentless criticism ultimately weakened Jonathan’s public standing and contributed to his defeat at the polls.
He also commended Jonathan’s conduct during and after the election, noting that the former president refrained from persecuting political opponents and maintained that “no politician’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian.”
He further recalled that Jonathan peacefully accepted the election outcome and congratulated then APC candidate Muhammadu Buhari even before the official declaration of the results.
