2027: DELE MOMODU SAYS TINUBU HAS LOST NORTHERN SUPPORT AMID GROWING DISCONTENT

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is facing an unprecedented level of public opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Tinubu’s re-election prospects during an interview with media personality Rufai Oseni, Momodu argued that the president no longer enjoys the level of support he previously received from Northern Nigeria.
The former presidential aspirant said Tinubu must first meet the constitutional requirement of securing at least 25 per cent of the votes in the required number of states, in addition to obtaining the overall majority needed to win the election.
According to him, widespread dissatisfaction with the president could make that task more difficult.
“The first hurdle is to secure the mandatory 25 per cent. Once he achieves that in the minimum required number of states and has the overall majority, then he can win,” Momodu said.
He, however, maintained that opposition to Tinubu has grown significantly, claiming that many Nigerians, including members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), are no longer supportive of the president.
Momodu further alleged that Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 election was largely aided by strong backing from the North, insisting that such support has since diminished.
He also claimed that Tinubu remains unpopular in Osun State, his ancestral home, alleging that voters there rejected him in the last election and would likely do so again.
