Liverpool have announced a strategic minority investment in the club by 1892 Holdings, a consortium led by businessman Amit Bhatia and backed by several prominent investors, including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

Fenway Sports Group (FSG), Liverpool’s majority owner, confirmed on Friday that it had reached a definitive agreement to sell a minority stake in the Premier League club to the consortium.

According to a statement on Liverpool’s official website, the investment group includes Bhatia, the Mittal Family Trusts, K5 Sports, a K5 Global Fund with Bezos as its lead investor, and EE Capital, the family office of Elaine and Eduardo Saverin.

Despite the deal, FSG will retain majority ownership and operational control of Liverpool.

The club said the investment was aimed at supporting its long-term growth ambitions by bringing together expertise from global business, technology and investment.

Liverpool said the new partners would work alongside FSG and the club’s leadership to identify opportunities to strengthen the club both on and off the pitch.

FSG President Mike Gordon said the investment reflected the ownership group’s long-term strategy for Liverpool.

He said the consortium’s shared vision and understanding of the club’s values made the partnership attractive to FSG.

Bhatia, speaking on behalf of 1892 Holdings, described the investment as a privilege and said the consortium was proud to become a partner of Liverpool.

He added that the group had invested because of its strong belief in the club and its leadership and looked forward to supporting Liverpool’s continued success.

The deal brings several high-profile business figures into Liverpool’s ownership structure while leaving FSG firmly in control.

Liverpool said the investment remains subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.

FSG acquired Liverpool in 2010 and has overseen the club during a period that included major domestic and European successes.

The latest agreement therefore represents an expansion of Liverpool’s investment base rather than a change in majority ownership or control.
