MALAWI TO FACE CAMEROON IN 2026 WAFCON FINAL

Malawi and Cameroon have secured places in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final after recording contrasting victories in their respective semi-final matches on Wednesday.

Malawi booked their place with a convincing 3-1 victory over Algeria, with Tabitha Chawinga scoring twice before her sister, Temwa Chawinga, added a third goal.

Cameroon, meanwhile, defeated hosts Morocco 3-1 on penalties after both sides played out a goalless draw in regulation time.

Cameroon goalkeeper Michaely Bihina emerged as the hero of the shootout, saving four Morocco penalties before Myriam Maéva Nyadjou scored the decisive spot-kick.

The four semi-finalists — Malawi, Cameroon, Morocco and Algeria — have all secured qualification for next summer’s Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The tournament will mark the first World Cup appearance for Malawi and Algeria. Morocco will make its second appearance after reaching the last 16 in 2023, while Cameroon have previously featured at the 2015 and 2019 editions.

Malawi and Cameroon will face off in the WAFCON final on Sunday.
