OSUN POLL: ADELEKE CONFIDENT OF VICTORY, ALLEGES POLICE INTERFERENCE

Osun State Governor and governorship candidate of the Accord Party, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed confidence in winning Saturday’s governorship election, urging voters to protect their ballots throughout the electoral process.
Adeleke spoke shortly after casting his vote at Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Unit 9, Ede North Local Government Area, where he arrived at about 8:32 a.m.
The governor was accompanied by a large number of supporters and was accredited by the Presiding Officer at about 8:35 a.m. before casting his ballot.
Speaking after voting, Adeleke said he was confident of emerging victorious in the election, while urging eligible voters across the state to come out and exercise their franchise.
He also called on voters to remain at their polling units, where possible, to monitor the process in line with guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to the governor, the election provides the people of Osun with an opportunity to determine who will govern the state for the next four years.
He urged voters and political supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding during voting and the subsequent collation of results.
Adeleke, however, raised allegations of possible police interference in some parts of the state, calling on the Inspector-General of Police to take immediate action.
The governor claimed that he had received information about a police officer allegedly planning to disrupt the electoral process in Ede and urged the IGP to remove the officer from the state.
“We also received information about our supporters being scared away in Modakeke and some areas in the state by some police officers to disenfranchise them,” he said.
The governor also warned his supporters to be vigilant over what he described as the possible circulation of fake ballot papers in some polling units.
Despite the allegations, Adeleke expressed optimism that the election would remain peaceful, credible and reflective of the wishes of the people of Osun State.
The election is being conducted across the state’s 30 local government areas amid heightened security arrangements and restrictions on vehicular movement.
