PANIC AS SKIT MAKER HACKED TO DEATH IN LAGOS COMMUNITY

There was tension in Lakowe, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State, on Thursday, after a popular skit maker and hairstylist, identified simply as Austin, was gruesomely killed by suspected cultists.
It was gathered that the assailants stormed the community in the early hours of August 14, dragged Austin out of his apartment, and hacked him to death with machetes. Witnesses said his hand was severed during the attack.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, said the community woke up to the shocking discovery.
“There was some commotion early Thursday morning, but no one knew what it was. It wasn’t until later that we were told someone’s corpse was lying in the community. When we got there, it was Austin’s body, with his hand cut off,” the source said.
Another resident revealed that Austin, who was well known in the area for his hairstyling and skit-making craft, had reportedly posted a cryptic farewell message on his WhatsApp status two days before the attack, hinting that he sensed danger.
A video obtained by our correspondent showed the lifeless body of the deceased lying on the ground, surrounded by sympathisers.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, could not be reached for comments as calls to his line went unanswered, and a text message was yet to be replied to at press time.
The killing comes weeks after the Lagos State Police Command arrested six suspected cultists in connection with the murder of one Kamoru, popularly known as Keeper, during a clash in the Ebute Meta area.
According to the command, the suspects identified as Raphael Ashim (30), Wasiu Kareem (33), Sadiq Olabisi (40), Olamilekan Oluwatosin (27), Olalekan Olugbodi (54), and Ibrahim Oladimeji (22) were arrested on July 17 during an intelligence-led operation. They were alleged to have been involved in a series of cult-related clashes that claimed lives, including that of Keeper.
