The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of presiding over a collapsing Nigeria, citing rising insecurity and alleged corruption in government.

Obi made the remarks on Saturday during an ongoing town hall meeting in Imo State, where he criticised the Federal Government’s handling of security and the management of public funds.

The former Anambra State governor lamented that insecurity and the alleged stealing of public resources had become normalised, accusing the Tinubu administration of failing to protect lives and property.

He said Nigerians were increasingly living in fear within their own country, warning that the situation could not continue unchecked.

Obi also questioned Tinubu’s capacity to address the country’s challenges, alleging that the President lacked the energy required to govern effectively.

“Everything under President Tinubu is collapsing. We have become more terrorised, and Nigeria is now number four. Tinubu no longer has the energy to govern. The greatest problem of this country is people stealing public money, and that cannot happen under my watch,” he stated.

The NDC presidential candidate further promised to take decisive action against insecurity if elected, declaring that he and his political ally, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, would prioritise national security and unity.

“If given the opportunity, Kwankwaso and I will unite this country and declare a state of emergency on insecurity,” he said.

Obi maintained that Nigeria required leadership capable of restoring security, tackling corruption and ensuring that public resources were deployed for the benefit of ordinary citizens rather than a privileged few.
