The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a viral social media notice directing prospective Police Constable recruits to report for training on September 18, 2026.
The Force, in a disclaimer issued through its official X handle on Wednesday, described the publication as fake and urged prospective recruits to disregard it.
According to the NPF, the notice purportedly originated from the Force and instructed successful applicants to report for training on September 18.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to state that the said publication is not an official communication of the Force and should be disregarded,” the statement said.
The forged document, dated September 1, 2026, was reportedly designed to resemble official police stationery and contained a list of personal items recruits were allegedly required to bring, including white canvas shoes and bedding.
The document also reportedly directed recruits to report to various state police headquarters for the supposed training exercise.
The Force said images of the fake notice circulating online had been clearly marked “FAKE” to prevent further confusion.
The NPF advised all prospective trainees to obtain information only through their recruitment portals and verified official communication channels.
“All prospective trainees are advised to rely solely on information communicated through their respective recruitment portals and the official communication channels of the Nigeria Police Force for verified and authentic updates regarding the recruitment and training exercise,” the Force stated.
The police further cautioned members of the public against sharing unverified information capable of misleading applicants or creating unnecessary confusion.
The development comes amid the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 Police Constables into the Nigeria Police Force, an initiative approved by President Bola Tinubu in late 2025 as part of efforts to strengthen police manpower and tackle insecurity.
The Police Service Commission, which is overseeing the recruitment in collaboration with the NPF, opened the application portal on December 15, 2025.
In July 2026, the commission released the list of successful candidates.
On August 6, 2026, the PSC formally handed over the 50,000 newly recruited constables to the Nigeria Police Force for training at approved institutions.
