The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with a violent clash that claimed two lives in Dass Local Government Area.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Nafiu Habib stated on Saturday that the suspects are being investigated for criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance and culpable homicide.
According to preliminary findings, the incident began around 6pm on September 4, 2026, when Ibrahim El-Safwan, also known as Jabala’i, allegedly conspired with others and attacked 29-year-old tricycle rider Abdulrahman Nuru in the Tudun Wus area of Dass. Nuru, who hails from Bundot, was stabbed multiple times with cutlasses.
Officers from Dass Division were deployed to the scene. On arrival, they found that personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, whose office is nearby, had already secured the victim’s tricycle and arrested one suspect. Nuru was rushed to the General Hospital in Dass, where he was confirmed dead.
The killing sparked tension, with youths from Bundot allegedly arming themselves with cutlasses and other weapons and moving into the Bayan Fada area in a reprisal attack. A violent confrontation erupted near the Dass Central Motor Park, during which 38-year-old Mukhtar Jibrin of Bayan Fada was stabbed. He was taken to the General Hospital in Dass and later referred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where he also died.
Detectives restored order and arrested seven suspects: Umar Abubakar, 20, of Bayan Fada; and Blus Garba, 19; Adamu Muhammad, 17; Hussaini Danjuma, 17; Hassan Danjuma, 17; Shuaibu Sani, 17; and Aliyu Abdullahi, 18, all of Bundot. Efforts continue to track down other suspects who fled.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the killings and directed a thorough investigation. He urged residents of Dass to remain calm, obey the law and refrain from self-help, assuring them that those responsible would be brought to justice.
