Nigerian singer Rema has opened up about the end of his previous romantic relationship, describing his former girlfriend as “quite manipulative” and saying the pressure from the relationship eventually led him to walk away.

Speaking in an interview with Korty EO, the award-winning artiste said the relationship had its beautiful moments but was not without challenges.

According to Rema, the demands of his career already expose him to significant pressure, making it important for him to find peace and comfort at home. However, he said the situation was often the opposite in the relationship.

The singer explained that instead of finding relief after dealing with the pressures of public life, he was confronted with additional stress whenever he returned home, a situation he eventually found difficult to endure.

“My romantic relationship was beautiful but a little quite manipulative. So much pressure. Knowing the world puts so much pressure on me but coming back home is where you want to feel relieved, but when you come back home and you are getting more pressure, it’s a different story. For now, I’m done,” he said.

Rema added that he ultimately ended the relationship when he could no longer cope with what he described as excessive pressure.
