Chelsea and Manchester City have reportedly reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez, according to French publication L’Équipe.

The deal is understood to be worth £120m (€140m), excluding bonuses, with the 25-year-old World Cup winner expected to complete his move to Manchester City before the transfer window closes, subject to final paperwork and a medical.

Fernandez, who is contracted to Chelsea until 2032, has been linked with several top European clubs in recent years, including Paris Saint-Germain.

However, the midfielder reportedly favoured a move to Manchester City, where he could reunite with Enzo Maresca, who previously coached him at Chelsea.

The proposed transfer brings an end to one of the summer’s major transfer sagas, with Fernandez keen to leave Chelsea following the club’s absence from European competition.

For Manchester City, the move would represent another significant midfield acquisition following the arrival of former Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi for €100m.

If completed, Fernandez’s transfer would further strengthen City’s midfield options ahead of the new season.
