Concern over veteran actor Wale Elesho’s facial injury emerged during the funeral rites of late actor Taiwo ‘Ogogo’ Hassan, with several people expressing worry over the appearance of the condition.
Some had described the growth as a lesion and advised the actor to seek medical attention from a dermatologist.
However, Elesho, in an interview with the BBC, dismissed speculation that the condition was cancer, describing it as a minor ailment that became enlarged after he failed to seek appropriate treatment when it initially appeared.
He said the condition was not cancer and explained that he continued with his normal activities despite the growth.
“It isn’t cancer. Will someone who has cancer be walking about? I will drive and go places. It’s a minor thing; it grew this big because when it started, I didn’t go to the right channel to treat it,” he said.
Providing an update on the actor’s condition, the National Publicity Secretary of the Association of Nigerian Theatre Practitioners, Adejonwo Oluwafemi Femson, disclosed that Elesho had undergone surgery for the facial lesion.
In a Facebook post, Adejonwo said the procedure was successful and that the veteran actor was recovering well.
He wrote, “Update on my brother, Prince Adewale Adeoye Elesho. By God’s grace, his operation was successful. He is doing well and recovering. Thank you all for the calls, prayers and concern.
“We appreciate you. Continue to pray for his speedy recovery.”
