Several people have reportedly lost their lives following a head-on collision between two trucks near Ovia River along the Lagos-Benin Expressway in Edo State.

The accident involved a truck conveying crates of drinks and another transporting glasses.

According to reports, the two trucks were travelling in opposite directions at high speed when they collided.

The drivers, their motor boys and other individuals conducting business along the road reportedly died instantly.

The incident triggered a severe traffic gridlock, leaving passengers stranded and motorists trapped along the expressway.

Some passengers who spoke with DAILY POST expressed frustration over the deplorable condition of the road, saying it had increased transportation costs, delayed their journeys and negatively affected businesses.

A driver identified simply as Emmanuel said the poor state of the road had forced him to spend substantial amounts on vehicle repairs after almost every journey

Similarly, Olaoluwa, a passenger travelling from Lagos to Warri, Delta State, disclosed that he had been stuck in the traffic for three consecutive days.

He criticised politicians for allegedly prioritising election campaigns over the provision of basic infrastructure and security for citizens.

Other passengers appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and ensure the rehabilitation of the expressway, stressing the hardship its condition continues to cause motorists and travellers.
