Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk are reportedly considering Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge as their temporary home for Champions League matches this season.
Shakhtar have been unable to use their Donbas Arena since 2014 due to the conflict in the Donetsk region, forcing the club to host home fixtures in other Ukrainian cities and across Europe.
Stamford Bridge has emerged as the club’s preferred option because of its 40,000-seat capacity and location in west London. Discussions are reportedly ongoing, with Fulham’s Craven Cottage and Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium also considered as alternatives.

The proposed arrangement is understood to be driven by the strong relationship between Shakhtar and Chelsea, which developed following Mykhailo Mudryk’s 2023 transfer and their involvement in the Game4Ukraine charity match.
Playing at Stamford Bridge would also give Shakhtar an opportunity to connect with the sizeable Ukrainian community in London while providing a suitable venue for high-profile Champions League fixtures.
Any agreement would still require approval from UEFA and the relevant local authorities.
