The Director of Politics at Arise News, Sumner Sambo, has stated that the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, is not inclined to leave her current position to become the running mate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Sambo made the remark on Monday during an appearance on The Morning Show, where he addressed growing political speculation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, although Okonjo-Iweala may be considered for the vice-presidential slot, she is unlikely to abandon what he described as a prestigious and stable role at the WTO, where she is currently serving a second term set to run until 2029.

He further argued that it would be improbable for her to leave a secure international appointment for a politically uncertain contest in Nigeria, noting that the process still faces legal and political challenges.

Sambo said Okonjo-Iweala has already made her position clear, stressing that her current global role offers stability and long-term commitment, making a political move unrealistic at this stage.
