ARMY INTERCEPTS TRUCKLOAD OF ILLICIT DRUGS ON LAGOS–CALABAR ROAD

Troops of the 65 Battalion have intercepted a truck loaded with a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road.

The Nigerian Army disclosed in a statement on Sunday by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, that the operation was carried out following credible intelligence.

According to Yahaya, the intelligence-driven operation, conducted on July 9, 2026, led to the interception of the vehicle and the arrest of its driver.

Preliminary findings indicated that the suspected drugs were being transported to the Berger area of Lagos State.

He noted that the driver was unable to provide convincing details regarding the ownership of the consignment or its intended recipient.

Yahaya added that, in line with standard procedures, the suspect and the recovered drugs were handed over to the Lagos State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The handover was carried out by the Commanding Officer of the 65 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo.

Commenting on the operation, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Babalola, praised the troops for their alertness, professionalism and operational efficiency.

He encouraged them to maintain the momentum of ongoing operations and step up efforts to prevent drug traffickers and other criminal elements from operating within the division’s area of responsibility.
