LASU HONOURS FORMER DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLORS, BURSAR AT COLOURFUL SEND-OFF CEREMONY

The Lagos State University has honoured its immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adenike Omotunde Boyo; immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Olufunso Abayomi Omobitan; and former University Bursar, Mr Sa’id Babatunde Olayinka, FCA, at a colourful send-off ceremony in recognition of their outstanding service to the institution.
The ceremony, organised by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room on Wednesday, brought together principal officers, deans, directors, members of the university community, family members and well-wishers to celebrate the trio’s contributions to the growth and development of the university.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, described the former management team members as dedicated leaders whose loyalty, professionalism and commitment contributed significantly to the achievements recorded during her administration.

She noted that the university’s landmark accomplishments were the result of teamwork and a shared vision, stressing that the honourees played pivotal roles in implementing policies that transformed the institution.
“The remarkable milestones we have recorded as an administration were made possible because we worked together as one united team. As the Yoruba would say, ‘Ẹni kan kì í jẹ́ àwàdẹ’ (no one accomplishes great things alone). Today, we celebrate colleagues whose dedication, wisdom and unwavering support helped shape the success story of Lagos State University,” she said.

The Vice-Chancellor described Prof. Boyo as a dependable confidante whose loyalty never wavered throughout her tenure, while commending Prof. Omobitan for his intellectual depth, steadfast support and commitment to the administration. She also praised Olayinka for his diligence, integrity and professionalism, describing him as a reliable officer who strengthened the university’s financial administration.
Other members of the university management also paid glowing tributes to the retirees.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Oseni Taiwo Afisi, said the celebrants’ dedication, sacrifice and collaborative spirit were instrumental to many of the successes recorded by the institution.
Similarly, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin, described the event as a fitting recognition of three distinguished administrators whose legacies would continue to inspire future generations.
He lauded Prof. Boyo’s sincerity, exemplary leadership and conflict-resolution skills, describing her as “Mama Strategist,” while commending Prof. Omobitan’s academic excellence and administrative competence. He also praised Olayinka for his immense contributions to strengthening the university’s financial management.

Several senior officials, including the Dean of the Postgraduate School, Prof. Ibrahim Olateju; Director of LASUSBAS, Prof. Yunus Dauda; former Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Moses Akanbi; Director of Internal Audit, Mrs Margaret Ogunkoya; Director of the Centre for General Nigerian Studies, Prof. M.O.B. Mohammed; and Senior Deputy Registrar, Postgraduate School, Mr Samuel Otesanya, also commended the retirees for their exemplary service.
Responding, Prof. Boyo expressed gratitude to God for granting her the opportunity to successfully complete two terms as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).

She thanked the Vice-Chancellor for her confidence, support and friendship, describing her as “a friend, an inspiring leader and an exceptional boss.”
Prof. Omobitan also appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for her visionary leadership and acknowledged the support of members of the university’s management throughout his tenure.

In his remarks, Olayinka reflected on the responsibilities of managing the university’s finances, stating that every decision taken during his tenure was guided by the institution’s best interests and financial stability.
He also thanked the Vice-Chancellor for her unwavering support and wished her a successful completion of her tenure.

The ceremony featured goodwill messages, presentation of gifts, a commemorative cake-cutting and a dance session involving the Vice-Chancellor, members of management and the celebrants.
The event concluded with an appreciation speech by the Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. Fanu, who thanked the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for organising the ceremony in honour of the three former management officials, while the Deputy Registrar in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Dr Lateef Shekoni, delivered the vote of thanks.
