FIFA Explains Golden Boot Tie-Breakers
According to FIFA, the Golden Boot will be awarded to the player who finishes the tournament as the highest goalscorer.
Where two or more players are tied on goals, assists will be used as the first tie-breaker. If players remain level after goals and assists are considered, the award will go to the player who achieved the feat in fewer minutes played during the tournament.
With both Mbappe and Messi currently on eight goals, the French captain holds the advantage thanks to his superior assist tally. He has also played fewer minutes than the Argentine star.
