Troops of 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army under the 2 Division, have foiled an attempted abduction of school pupils at Iluke Community in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The terrorists, who were reportedly dressed in military uniforms, were said to have invaded the community with the intention of abducting pupils of Iluke Primary School before they were intercepted by troops.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the operation was carried out on June 10, 2026, following credible intelligence provided by vigilant members of the community who alerted troops on patrol to suspicious activities in the area.
Acting on the information, the troops swiftly mobilised to the community, where they discovered that the attackers had already assembled the pupils with the intent of abducting them. The soldiers immediately engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee.

During the encounter, one of the attackers was neutralised, while several others escaped with gunshot injuries. However, before the arrival of the troops, the assailants had reportedly killed a teacher and a resident of the community.
The Army said the timely intervention of its personnel prevented what could have been a mass abduction of school children, adding that the operation underscored the professionalism and responsiveness of troops in safeguarding lives.
It further stated that pursuit operations are ongoing to track the fleeing suspects, while security agencies in neighbouring states have been alerted to block possible escape routes into Kwara and Niger States.
The Nigerian Army urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements from affected areas.
