Nigeria has moved beyond the period of economic reforms and is now entering an era of prosperity, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has declared.
She made the declaration on Saturday in Enugu State during the South-East Women Mega Empowerment Rally organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Mobilisation Directorate in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Speaking in Pidgin English, the First Lady said her husband had asked her to assure Nigerians that the country was transitioning from economic reforms to prosperity.
“Mr President say make I greet everybody. You know why? He say make I tell una say we don do reforms, na prosperity we dey now,” she said.
She compared the country’s transition to the final stages of pregnancy, explaining that Nigerians were approaching a period when they would begin to enjoy the benefits of the government’s policies.
According to her, just as an expectant mother looks forward to childbirth, Nigerians should anticipate the gains of the ongoing economic changes.
Defending the APC government’s empowerment initiatives, Remi Tinubu said the administration was committed to taking practical action rather than making promises without implementation.
She stated that the government believed in delivering tangible results, adding that its empowerment programmes had continued to generate reactions from political opponents.
The First Lady also announced plans to provide financial support to 250 women across the South-East, with each beneficiary receiving N200,000 to establish or expand a business.
She further disclosed that another empowerment programme targeting 250 elderly women would hold on December 17, noting that the initiatives would benefit a total of 750 women across the five South-East states.
She added that on December 3, the government would provide empowerment funds to APC senatorial candidates to support initiatives marking World Disability Day.
Remi Tinubu urged the party’s candidates in the region to ensure the successful implementation of the programmes.
The First Lady, who said she had visited the South-East several times since her husband assumed office, reaffirmed her commitment to supporting women in the region.
She also urged residents to vote for President Tinubu and other APC candidates contesting various state and federal positions in the forthcoming elections.
Calling on the people to support the party from the top to the bottom, she said she and her husband had spent the past four years engaging with Nigerians across the country and would sustain the engagement.
She also challenged the audience to identify similar empowerment initiatives introduced by other presidential candidates.
