EFCC operative batters, abandons lover over refusal to abort pregnancy

Blessing Nwokpa, 19, was allegedly beaten by one of the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Edward Okeke; he works as an exhibit keeper at the EFCC office situated at awolowo road ikoyi.
The victim who was a canteen attendant at the EFCC premises was allegedly impregnated by Edward who refused to take responsibility for the pregnancy instead he offered her money to terminate the pregnancy. When Blessing refused, he beat her up and threw her out of his house.
Blessing, who is now seven months pregnant and homeless after she was fired from the canteen, went to EFCC office where Edward works to ask for money to feed and for ante-natal care. When Edward saw her, he brutally battered her.
Sources said the intervention of a senior officer at the office, saved Blessing from further battering. Blessing has reported the matter to the Legal Aids Council of Nigeria.
Blessing who said she was a virgin used to sleep at the canteen where she worked after her brother who brought her to Lagos had accommodation issue. Edward offered to put her up in his house pending when her brother gets another accommodation.
She claimed that Edward introduced her into sex and deflowered her. When she found out she was pregnant, she informed Edward and He gave her N18, 000 to terminate the pregnancy her refusal to terminate the pregnancy led to constant beating and she was eventually threw out of the house.
Even when the Legal Aids Council invited Edward to settle the matter, he told them that he would not come and boasted that nothing would happen.
The teenager said all she needed was for the EFCC operative to take responsibility of the pregnancy and not necessarily to marry her.
Blessing has been referred to an NGO for assistance.
