Rauf Olaniyan, the deputy governor, has been impeached by the Oyo State House of Assembly.

On Monday, the lawmakers impeached Olaniyan on grounds of alleged misbehavior.

A seven-person investigative team chaired by Justice Munta Abimbola recommended his impeachment after finding the charges made against the deputy governor to be true.

The impeachment of him was supported by 23 of the Assembly’s 32 members.

Olaniyan and Governor Seyi Makinde were both elected to government in 2019 on the PDP platform, but over time, the two became estranged from one another.

When the Deputy Governor left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress this year, their differences and working relationship became more pronounced and nearly unbridgeable.
