FG EVACUATES 107 NIGERIAN MIGRANTS STRANDED IN LIBYA

The Federal Government evacuated another batch of 107 Nigerians stranded in Libya on Tuesday as part of its ongoing rescue efforts to guarantee that no Nigerian is left behind in that nation.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Amb. Kabiru Musa, Charge D’affiares en titre of the Nigerian Mission in Libya, stated that the evacuees would arrive at Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday.

“In collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the federal government has successfully carried out four evacuation exercises, repatriating approximately 700 stranded Nigerians from Libya in 2023.”

“107 stranded Nigerians departed Misrata International Airport aboard chattered flight No.UZ189 at 13.15 local time and are expected to arrive the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos same Tuesday evening.

“There are 49 males, 48 females, 8 children, and 2 infants among the evacuees.””Nigeria will continue to intensify efforts, with the support of the IOM, to rescue, protect, and ensure the safe return of all stranded migrants in Libya,” Musa stated.

According to reports, thousands of Nigerian migrants have been detained in various sections of Libya as a transit country following failed attempts to travel to their destination nations via illicit routes.

Some are willing participants in irregular migration, while others are trafficked or transported.

As the Nigerian government continues to crack down on and punish human traffickers, it has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safe return and reintegration of individuals who have become stranded in Libya and wish to return home.
