LASU DON, LAI OSO DIES IN CAR ACCIDENT

Lai Oso, a professor of mass communication at Lagos State University’s School of Communication, has reportedly died.
Oso, 67, was alleged to have perished in a horrific accident while returning from a meeting in Abraka, Delta State, on Saturday evening.
Professor Sunday Olayinka Alawode, Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at LASU, announced his death in a televised message given to The PUNCH on Sunday morning.
“Good morning, family,” Alawode wrote. I am compelled to notify you of Professor Muraino Olayiwola OSO’s (affectionately known as Baba Lai Oso) involvement in a heinous car accident that claimed his life yesterday, June 24, 2023.
“It comes as a rude shock to all of us, even as we express our condolences to Mummy Oso, the children and his entire family, the Communication family worldwide, the LASU Community, and all others.”Baba, your abrupt departure is heartbreaking, but we take consolation in knowing that you have gone to be with the Lord. Peace be with you. Baba of the Communication family, farewell.”
Oso was a professor at Lagos State University’s Mass Communication School of Communication. Between 2011 to 2015, he served as Dean of the school. He was the President of the Nigerian Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals.
He attended the University of Lagos (B.Sc. Mass Communication), Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (M.Sc. International Relations), and the University of Leicester, England, where he earned a Ph.D. in Mass Communication as a Federal Government scholar in 1977.
The LASU don worked as a radio and news agency reporter and taught journalism, media and governance, political communication, development communication, and theory courses.
