LAGOS CP DECORATES NEWLY PROMOTED OFFICERS, URGED THEM TO BE MORE DEDICATED AND COMMITTED IN DISCHARGE OF THEIR DUTIES

Idowu Owohunwa, the commissioner of police for the Lagos State Command, on Monday, decorated some officers who have just been promoted from the ranks of Inspectors to Assistant Superintendent of Police.

The officers according to the CP, are those who have demonstrated consistent professional excellence, good service record and moral strength in the discharge of their duties in Lagos

While giving his speech at the event which was held at the States Command in Ikeja, CP Owohunwa urged the newly promoted Assistant Superintendent of Police to uphold a high standard of professionalism in the performance of their duties at all times while advising them to make the most of all legal resources, both human and material at their disposal to enhance policing in Lagos and throughout the Nation.

“Nothing motivates a police officer more than extending his due to him in term of promotions as and when due.

“My greatest honour as a leader is to superintend over the promotion of my officers who have demonstrated consistent professional excellence, good service records and moral strength in the discharge of their functions,”

He stated that the command and the Nigeria Police Force has high expectations for the newly promoted officers as they were promoted on merit.

He said, “There’s a wide difference between being an Inspector and being an ASP. You are now no longer deserted officers but now officers of the Nigeria police force.”

He described the event as unique as it is, about the highest set of decorations he has attended since he began his leadership at the Lagos State Command, while mentioning that a total number of 1400 Inspectors are to be inducted and elevated to ranks of ASP.

He said, “I have had the privilege to do these on two or three other occasions, but this one is particularly unique to me because, it’s about the highest, and as the Commissioner of Police in Lagos state today, by the grace of Almighty God, we’ll be privileged to induct a total of 1400 Inspectors officer rank officer cadet of the Nigeria police. It means a lot because, these personnel are transiting from inspectorate cadet to the strategy cadet of the Nigeria police Force, that is, the decision making cadet of the Nigeria police.

The new rank comes with some obligations in term of conduct, professional outlook, ability to dissect very complex internal security issues and take decisions that would align with the law, align with the interest of the citizens they serve”

CP Owohunwa, however, mentioned that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, said that promotion would now be based on merit and seniority, while also, thanking him for his fatherly concern on the overall welfare of all police officers, as well as the Police Service Commission’s leadership for taking the IGP’s recommendations for personnel promotions at various cadres into consideration.

“You are the first set that will benefit from this policy, you should be proud that you are earning it on your merit.

“I must remind you to whom much is given, much is expected. The IGP stands on very high professional ground and he expects his followers to manifest excellence in their conduct at all times,” he said.

He appealed to the promoted officers to see their promotions as another step in their bright careers and the challenges that would go with the position.

“There is no more excuse, always be guided by certain values. Don’t change those values so that those excesses will not bring you down.

“I commit you to God and pray that He should continue to perfect your careers, sustain the strength of characters that brought you to where you are today and brighten your future.

“I congratulate you on behalf of the Lagos State Police family and the IGP. I wish you well and I welcome you to the prestigious cadet of the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.

While speaking with the press, one of the newly promoted officers, ASP Adeoye Olufemi Olamilekan, said that his promotion is a work in progress as he is still aiming higher.

Adeoye, advised other Officers to be diligent in carrying out their duties, respect the rule of law and also act according to the rulers and regulations of the organization as they patiently wait to be elevated as well.

ASP Azamarogbe Elizabeth, expressed her happiness by thanking the Almighty God and the Nigerian Police Force for her promotion from Inspector to the rank of an ASP. She said, “I feel humbled, to be among the newly promoted officers in the regime of the new AIG of Police.

I have been an outstanding police officer from the beginning, and I have served for longer years in different fields and different states. I want to advise others to be efficient in their job and always be punctual, as punctuality is the key.

Meanwhile, five other officers where presented with medals for their outstanding performances during a National Taekwondo Championship in Bayelsa recently. These officers were awarded with a total of eight medals consisting of Two silver and 6 bronzes.

The CP thanked them for their efforts in representing the Lagos State Command at such a remarkable event while stating that, this will help the Nigerian Police in self defense.
