EDUCATION: FG ANNOUNCES PLAN TO REVERSE MERGER OF TECHNICAL, SCIENCE COLLEGES

Read Time:43 Second

The federal government has announced intentions to unbundle federal technical institutions and science schools across the country.

Prof. Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education, made the announcement at a one-day stakeholders’ meeting on the challenges and issues affecting the country’s technical colleges.

Mamman voiced dissatisfaction with the merger of technical colleges and colleges of science, claiming that it destroyed the benefits of creating technical colleges across the country.

He said that technical colleges should only accept students who are interested in technical education.

The minister underlined that people who want to pursue science programs should attend ordinary colleges and complete their studies there, as it was clearly a mistake to integrate both schools.

Mamman also lamented the poor enrolment of students in technical colleges, pointing out that these institutions were supposed to provide skills that would help improve the country.
