NOLLYWOOD ACTRESS AISHA LAWAL ISSUES CEASE AND DESIST OVER DEFAMATORY VIDEO

Nollywood actress and businesswoman Aisha Lawal has taken legal action against Miss Abiola Azeez Istijaba over a viral video that her legal team describes as false, malicious, and deeply damaging to her reputation. In a cease and desist letter dated June 10, 2025, Lawal’s solicitors, The Haven Solicitors, accused Istijaba of making and circulating a defamatory video that mentions Lawal by name and portrays her in a highly unfavorable light.
The letter alleges that Istijaba claimed the actress was involved in a sexual affair with Lagos political figure Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, as the basis for receiving a Toyota Venza as a birthday gift. It further states that the video suggests Lawal engages in relationships with men in exchange for material benefits, a portrayal described by her legal team as wholly untrue and without any factual basis.
The impact of the video, according to Lawal’s lawyers, has been severe. It has led to the loss of a significant endorsement deal worth hundreds of millions of naira, damaged her credibility in the public eye, and caused untold psychological trauma to both her and her family. The letter stresses that the defamatory content has been widely circulated and continues to spread globally, amplifying the damage.
Lawal is demanding an immediate halt to further defamatory statements, a full retraction of the video and all related content, and a public apology within seven days. The solicitors warn that failure to comply will result in legal proceedings seeking monetary damages, legal fees, and injunctive relief under civil and criminal law.
This move underscores the increasing seriousness with which Nigerian public figures are responding to reputational attacks on social media, and it signals a firm stance against the viral spread of unverified claims.
