Former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani has reacted to the decision by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to rename the Abuja International Conference Centre (ICC) after President Bola Tinubu.

In a post on social media, Sani noted that the facility was constructed during the regime of former military president, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), suggesting that historical contributions should not be erased.

His reaction comes amid widespread public debate following the renaming announcement by Wike.

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu commissioned the renovated International Conference Centre (ICC), which was renamed in his honor by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

According to Wike, the facility has been renamed “Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.”

The minister, who spoke during the inauguration, also disclosed that other halls in the facility were renamed after Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, and Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kekere-Ekun.

Reacting, Shehu Sani, in a post on his official Facebook page, said the facility was built by former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida and should not be renamed after Tinubu.

He wrote, “The International Conference Centre Abuja was built by IBB. The President should reject renaming the place with his name.”
