Agency Report

Palestinian officials and eyewitnesses reported on Wednesday that an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City killed Dr. Marwan Al-Sultan, the director of the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza, along with members of his family.

According to his relative, Ahmed al-Sultan, the doctor was killed in his apartment alongside his wife, daughters, and son-in-law. Their bodies were recovered and transported to Al-Shifa Hospital, where the facility’s director, Mohammad Abu Salmiya, said Dr. Sultan’s face was “barely recognisable.”

The strike has sparked strong condemnation from both Hamas and the health ministry in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip, where Israeli forces continue their military operations aimed at dismantling the militant group.

“We strongly condemn this heinous crime against our medical personnel,” the health ministry stated. “We ask Allah to grant him and his family mercy after a long journey of service.”

In response to the incident, the Israeli military told AFP that it had “struck a key terrorist from the Hamas terrorist organization in the area of Gaza City.” The army added that claims of civilian casualties “are being reviewed.”

The Indonesian Hospital, located in the embattled north of the territory, has been a crucial facility amid the ongoing war, treating large numbers of wounded civilians as fighting continues to escalate across the region.
