70-YEAR-OLD MAN KILLS SISTER OVER LAND DISPUTE IN JIGAWA

A 70-year-old man, Adamu Yakubu, has been arrested by the Jigawa State Police Command for allegedly killing his sister, Hannatu Hashimu, during a dispute over family inheritance land in Galadanchi village, Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The tragic incident, which occurred on July 1, 2025, around 3:30 p.m., was confirmed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, in a statement issued to journalists on Friday in Dutse, the state capital.
According to the police, the altercation between the siblings began as a verbal disagreement but quickly escalated into physical violence. Adamu Yakubu allegedly attacked his 45-year-old sister with a stick during the argument, leading to her collapse shortly after she returned to her matrimonial home.
“She was rushed to the Dutse General Hospital where she was confirmed dead by the medical doctor on duty,” SP Adam said.

The suspect was immediately taken into custody, and the assault stick used in the attack has been recovered as evidence. SP Adam added that Yakubu is assisting with the ongoing investigation and will be charged to court upon its conclusion.
The police condemned the act in strong terms and urged members of the public to resolve family and land-related disputes through peaceful and lawful means.
“The Jigawa State Police Command expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and assures the public that justice will be served,” the statement concluded.
