The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Wednesday, commissioned a newly constructed 105-bed Primary Health Care Centre in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State.

The landmark facility, named in honour of the First Lady, stands as a “flagship initiative” of the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada.

Described as “a new dawn in grassroots healthcare delivery”, the project represents a pivotal investment in community health and well-being at the local level.

Speaking at the commissioning, the First Lady who was represented by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, expressed joy over the development, “I am delighted to join you today for the commissioning of this newly constructed primary health care center in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area,” she said.

Senator Tinubu added that the facility is a major milestone in the community’s healthcare journey, saying, “I am informed that this primary health center features a 105-bed facility equipped with over 25 specialized units, modern equipment, dedicated family health units, and a fully functional theater and emergency response system.”

She commended the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, for her leadership and dedication to grassroots development.

“By choosing to invest in the health and future of the people of Ikosi-Isheri and neighboring communities, you have demonstrated impactful leadership and for that I say thank you.”

Senator Tinubu noted that the project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places health and well-being at the center of national development.

“True progress begins when we treat healthcare not as a privilege but as the right of every citizen. This centre is a bold response to that challenge. It is a beacon of hope for mothers, children, the elderly and the vulnerable in our society.”

She further called on the community to protect and take ownership of the centre.

“I urge all stakeholders, especially healthcare workers, community leaders and residents of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA to take ownership of this centre for today and for future generations.”

Concluding her remarks, the First Lady expressed gratitude for the honor bestowed upon her through the naming of the centre, “Once again I thank the executive chairman and the entire Ikosi-Isheri LCDA for the centre and thank you for naming it in my honor”, she added.

Development is Happening at Every Level – Gov Sanwo-Olu

In his remarks, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, praised the First Lady and other dignitaries for honoring the community with their presence.

He described the project as a testament to working governance across all tiers—federal, state, and local, while also praising the mayoress for her vision and tireless efforts in transforming the LCDA.

“Please, Your Excellency, extend our best wishes, our appreciation to our mummy, the first lady of our country, the woman that has done so many things… the great mentor that all of our women are aspiring and are looking forward to,” the governor said.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized the significance of local government efforts in driving grassroots transformation, “Development is not only happening at the national level with Mr. President’s new agenda… development is happening at the third tier of government, at our local government and LCDAs.”

He applauded the ongoing commissioning of projects across Lagos, calling on citizens to support their local leadership through civic participation in the upcoming local government elections on Saturday, July 12.

“The joy you can give Mr. President, the joy you can give Her Excellency the First Lady, and all of our 57 chairmanship candidates, is not to sit in your house. You should come out as a measure of appreciation… and vote for all of them,” he urged.

Reiterating the impact of the new health centre, the governor stated, “This is not a small infrastructure. This is for the betterment of the citizens, the indigent of this LCDA. It is for you to come here and get well… the vulnerable will be taken care of here. And that is what purposeful governance is all about.”

He concluded by thanking the First Lady, the wife of the Vice President, and other dignitaries who traveled from Abuja to witness the commissioning.

“We want to assure you that we’ll do a lot more for our people and for the benefit of the citizens of Lagos. Thank you very much, and it’s been an honor to be your governor”, he added.

A Legacy of Women Empowerment and Development, Says Princess Samiat Bada

Earlier in her welcome address, the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, while emphasizing on the importance of the project said, “Today is historic. We are not just commissioning a healthcare facility; we are immortalizing excellence, integrity, and impact.”

She described the centre as more than a medical building, but a “legacy of compassion, competence, and capacity” inspired by Senator Tinubu’s decades-long example of servant leadership.

“Ma, your presence here today says everything about what true leadership means. You didn’t just send goodwill—you showed up. That’s the difference. That’s the kind of leadership that teaches by example, not just title.”

While highlighting the structure and capabilities of the facility, the Mayoress said, “It is a full-scale medical institution, housing over 25 specialized units… From a Mini Theatre with precision equipment, to a Radiology Room with automated ECG systems, ICU, Family Planning Clinic, Child Welfare section, and a fully equipped Laboratory… it runs 24/7 with reliable power.”

She went further by paying tribute to President Tinubu and Senator Tinubu for their roles in empowering women, “Because you led, we found space to lead. Your influence is not only symbolic—it is structural, it is personal, and it is lasting.”

She also credited Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his support, adding that “Without his strategic support and alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda, today’s commissioning would not have become a reality.”

Princess Samiat also expressed profound gratitude to her cabinet and supporters for their unwavering commitment to supports.

She proudly noted that her administration had completed 108 projects in its first term, spanning roads, schools, empowerment programs, and key infrastructure.

The Senator Oluremi Tinubu Primary Health Care Centre is expected to serve thousands across Ikosi-Isheri and neighboring communities, enhancing access to quality healthcare and reaffirming the Renewed Hope Agenda’s promise of inclusive development.

Dignitaries present at the unveiling included the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the First Lady of Lagos, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; the wife of the Vice President of Nigeria, Hajia Nana Shettima, who represented the First Lady of the Federation, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; party stalwarts; community and religious leaders; as well as legislators and stakeholders from across the Kosofe Local Government Area.
