PETER OBI UNVEILS GEORGE MOGHALU AS LABOUR PARTY GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE, CONFIRMS 2027 PRESIDENTIAL BID

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, on Friday officially presented Dr. George Moghalu as the party’s standard-bearer for the November 8, 2025 Anambra State governorship election, during a vibrant campaign flag-off in Onitsha.
Obi also seized the moment to affirm his presidential ambition for the 2027 general election, declaring himself the most credible contender among the growing list of aspirants.
“Let me remind you that I am contesting for President in 2027, and I am serious about it,” Obi declared before a cheering crowd. “Everyone has the right to contest, but none of them has better credentials than I do.”
The former Anambra State governor rallied supporters to back Dr. Moghalu, describing him as a man of integrity, empathy, and capacity.
“Governance is about compassion, empathy, and service to the poor the very people governments often burden with taxes,” Obi said. “Dr. Moghalu embodies these values. He will govern Anambra with integrity and care.”
Obi also debunked recent reports suggesting his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stressing that the partnership with ADC was purely strategic for the 2027 elections and not a party switch.
“I remain a committed member of the Labour Party. The coalition with ADC is for broader electoral collaboration, not defection,” he clarified.
In a significant nod to gender inclusion, Obi praised LP’s deputy governorship candidate, Mrs. Ifeoma Okaro, highlighting her organizational strengths and appeal to the grassroots.
“She is not only popular but well-organized. Her candidacy shows our commitment to empowering women and families,” he said.
In his address, Dr. George Moghalu promised to serve Anambra with “the fear of God” and implement policies that prioritize education, infrastructure, and agriculture.
“We will not make promises we cannot fulfill,” Moghalu assured. “Children will return to school, our roads will be built, agriculture will receive attention, and every project will be people-focused.”
He added that tax policies under his leadership would be fair and considerate. “People will pay taxes, but not with pestles,” he quipped. “No one will be oppressed under our watch.”
The event also saw strong endorsements from Senators Victor Umeh (Anambra Central) and Tony Nwonye (Anambra North), who pledged to mobilize support for Moghalu’s candidacy and deliver victory for the Labour Party.
With the campaigns now in full swing, political observers are watching closely to see whether the Obi-Moghalu ticket can galvanize voters and secure LP’s first governorship win in Anambra State.
