Spanish champions FC Barcelona have secured the loan signing of England international Marcus Rashford from Manchester United, the club announced on Wednesday, in a deal that runs until June 30, 2026, and includes a purchase option.
“Barcelona and Manchester United have reached a deal for the loan of the player Marcus Rashford until June 30, 2026,” the La Liga giants confirmed in an official statement. “The agreement also establishes an option to buy the English forward.”
According to Spanish media reports, Barcelona will cover approximately 75 percent of Rashford’s £325,000-a-week salary, with the 27-year-old forgoing the rest.
Rashford fell out of favour at Old Trafford under new coach Ruben Amorim and spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Aston Villa, where he scored four goals in 17 appearances before a hamstring injury sidelined him in April. Amorim had publicly questioned Rashford’s commitment and desire, leaving the forward out of key matches.
Barça coach Hansi Flick had previously identified Rashford as a target, alongside Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, as the club sought to bolster their options on the left wing. With Nico Williams opting to remain at Athletic Bilbao, Rashford emerged as a primary solution. He is also expected to provide support and competition for veteran striker Robert Lewandowski, who turns 37 in August.
Despite winning a domestic treble last season, Barcelona struggled with depth in wide attacking positions, relying heavily on Raphinha and teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.
Rashford, who debuted for Manchester United in 2015, scored 138 goals in 426 appearances for the Red Devils but has struggled for form and consistency in recent seasons. His move to Barcelona marks a rare high-profile transfer of a British player to the Camp Nou, following the likes of Gary Lineker and Mark Hughes in the 1980s.
Manchester United are expected to offload several more players this summer, including Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho, as the club undergoes a squad overhaul.
Barcelona, meanwhile, continue to grapple with financial fair play constraints and may need to offload players or restructure finances to register Rashford and recent goalkeeper signing Joan Garcia.
