President Bola Tinubu has sent a heartfelt message of support to Nigeria’s Super Falcons, urging them to secure a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title as they take on host nation Morocco in the final tonight at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.

In a statement personally signed and released on Saturday, the President conveyed the pride and unwavering support of the entire nation, highlighting the team’s inspiring performance throughout the tournament.

Praising the Super Falcons for their resilience and excellence, Tinubu described their campaign as “awe-inspiring” and commended them for the “pride, honour, and strength” they have consistently shown both on and off the field.

He specifically acknowledged the team’s thoughtful gesture towards South Africa’s Banyana Banyana player, Gabriela Salgado, following her injury, noting that it “reflects our shared humanity, empathy, and sisterly affection, which we Africans hold in high regard.”

Citing the team’s impressive form, Tinubu noted that if “statistics alone win matches, you are already champions,” referencing their unbeaten group stage run, knockout stage victories, and having conceded only one goal in the semi-final.

The President also reminded the squad of their remarkable history in the competition, having won all nine of their previous appearances in WAFCON finals.

To reinforce the government’s full backing, Tinubu revealed that a high-level presidential delegation has been dispatched to Rabat to support the Super Falcons.

The delegation includes Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite; Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, among others.

He extended his appreciation to the families, coaches, supporters, the Nigerian community in Morocco, the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, and the Nigerian Mission in Morocco for their enduring encouragement and loyalty throughout the tournament.

Concluding with a rousing charge, Tinubu declared, “You will finish strong by the Grace of God. Go for the tenth! Bring the trophy home. Your fellow countrymen and women, young and old, are rooting for you.”

He added that he looks forward to welcoming the team, their officials, and the coveted trophy in Abuja upon their victorious return.

As the nation eagerly awaits the final whistle, hopes are high for the Super Falcons to write a new chapter in Nigeria’s football history.
