JOE IGBOKWE: IGBO INDIGENES, NOT HERDSMEN, RESPONSIBLE FOR SOUTH-EAST KILLINGS
BY OWOLABI OLUWADARA
A prominent figure of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe, has lamented the persistent violence in the South-East region, accusing certain individuals within the area of unjustly attributing the turmoil to Fulani herdsmen.
Igbokwe expressed these views in a Facebook post on Thursday, alleging that the recent surge of killings and devastation in the South-East is being inflicted by fellow Igbos.
“The overt and compulsive falsehoods regarding the killings and destruction in the South-East can no longer be tolerated.
“It is Igbo harming Igbo, it is Igbo ravaging Igboland and assigning the blame to Hausa/Fulani herdsmen. This is not characteristic of our culture. This is lamentable,” he stated.
The APC stalwart, who hails from Anambra State, is known for his vocal stance on issues affecting the Igbo region and has consistently called for an end to what he describes as self-inflicted violence.

In a statement also posted on his Facebook page, Igbokwe expressed deep concern, warning that many Nigerians are blind to the looming consequences of ethnic divisions.
He remarked, “Good morning Nigerians! Ethnic prejudice is proliferating alarmingly like wildfire in Nigeria, and we are oblivious to the impending threat.
“I hope that the shroud obscuring our vision will be lifted so that we can perceive clearly. Let us proceed with caution. ”
