INEC BEGINS NATIONWIDE VOTER REGISTRATION, OPENS ONLINE PORTAL

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, beginning today, Monday, August 18, 2025.
In a statement posted on its official X handle, the commission said the exercise has kicked off with the online pre-registration phase, while physical registration will begin on August 25, 2025, at its 37 state offices and 774 local government area offices across the country.
INEC explained that the exercise is open to new voters aged 18 and above, as well as Nigerians seeking to collect or transfer their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) or replace lost and damaged cards. The commission, however, warned against multiple registrations, stressing that violators would face sanctions.

The electoral body urged eligible citizens to seize the opportunity, describing voter registration as essential to inclusive participation in the nation’s democratic process. Nigerians can register online via [www.cvr.inecnigeria.org](http://www.cvr.inecnigeria.org) or make inquiries through INEC’s call centre on 0700-CALL-INEC (0700-2255-4632) and its short code 4632.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening democracy, assuring that every eligible voter will have the chance to register ahead of the forthcoming elections.
